Focus: Goal Setting
Focus: Goal Setting
Having a vision provides focus to our Leadership Legacy. This tool helps you filter everything you do by first asking: “Does this move me closer to achieving my Aspirational Leadership Legacy, or away from it?” Remember, if you don’t know where you’re going, “then it doesn’t’ matter which way you go!”
Completing a pilgrimage in any age is no easy feat! Pilgrims must have a clear vision of what they want to accomplish and detailed plans of how they will achieve each phase of their journey.
On our Leadership Pilgrimages, we too must take care in planning and implementing every aspect of the journey. Without a clear vision and plan of what you want to achieve, you could end up anywhere or nowhere, much like the conversation described between Alice and the Cheshire Cat in Alice in Wonderland:
“Would you tell me, please, which way I ought to go from here?”
“That depends a good deal on where you want to get to,” said the Cat.
“I don’t much care where,” said Alice.
“Then it doesn’t matter which way you go,” said the Cat.
“So long as I get SOMEWHERE,” Alice added as an explanation.
“Oh, you’re sure to do that,” said the Cat, “if you only walk long enough.”
Regrettably, Alice’s wandering describes too many of our own leadership journeys. Without clear focus and plan, we are not likely to accidentally stumble upon the secret of creating and achieving a meaningful Leadership Legacy.
